Draft for legal review. Bracketed items must be completed and the whole document reviewed by qualified counsel before publication.

1. Who we are and what this is

pynmo ("pynmo", "we", "us") operates pynmo.com and its associated web and mobile applications (the "Service"), a community for people working in technology who are between roles, taking a break, recharging, or building something quietly.

These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a binding agreement between you and Purple Blocks LLC, a limited liability company formed in Missouri, United States. By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, don't use the Service.

Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information and forms part of these Terms.

2. Eligibility

The Service is intended for users located in the United States. We do not target, market to, or offer the Service to people in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or other regions with their own data protection regimes, and our infrastructure and support are built for US users only. If you access the Service from outside the United States you do so on your own initiative and are responsible for compliance with your local law. We may decline or close accounts from outside the United States.

You must be at least 16 years old (18 where required by your local law) and legally able to enter a contract. You may not use the Service if we have previously removed you, or if you are barred from doing so under applicable law.

One account per person. Accounts are personal to you and may not be shared, sold, or transferred.

3. Your account

3.1You are responsible for the accuracy of the information on your account and for keeping your credentials secure. Tell us promptly at security@pynmo.com if you believe your account has been accessed without your permission.

3.2You may sign up with email and password, or through a third-party provider (such as Google or GitHub). Where you use a third-party provider, that provider's own terms govern your relationship with them.

3.3You may close your account at any time from your account settings. See section 11 for what happens to your content.

4. Your profile and your "phase"

4.1Your profile may include your name, your current or most recent role, an avatar, and skills. Some fields are optional: you choose what to add.

4.2The Service includes a phase indicator (for example, Recharging or Energized). Your phase is visible only to you and is used to personalise your experience, for example the colours and content shown on your profile. We will not display your phase to other members unless we change this in the future, and we will tell you clearly before any such change and give you a choice.

4.3You control the visibility settings we make available. Some information, such as your display name and your posts, is visible to other members by design.

4.4Profile pictures are checked automatically. When you upload a profile picture we send the image to Google Cloud Vision, an automated image-safety service, before it is published. Only the image is sent: your name, account and other details do not travel with it. If the check flags the image as explicit or violent it is rejected and not published. No human at pynmo or at Google reviews it as part of this check, and you may upload a different picture.

5. Résumé upload and automated skill extraction

This section describes an automated feature. Please read it carefully.

5.1What the feature does. You may optionally upload a résumé or CV. When you do, we extract text from the document on our own servers and compare it against our own list of skills and the phrases that signal them, producing a list of suggested skills, technologies, role titles, and similar professional attributes. We use those suggestions to help you populate your profile. We accept .doc, .docx and .txt files up to 2 MB; PDFs are not accepted.

5.2It is optional. You are never required to upload a résumé. You can build and use your profile entirely by entering information yourself. Skipping the upload does not limit your access to the community features of the Service.

5.3No third party receives it, and no AI model reads it. Your résumé is not transmitted to any outside provider. It is not sent to a large language model, our own or anyone else's. It is read on our infrastructure in the United States, matched against a list we maintain, and discarded when the request finishes. We do not keep the file or the extracted text. Section 4 of our Privacy Policy sets this out in detail, including what we do keep: the skills you accept, and a record of what the match recommended and why.

5.4Suggestions are suggestions. Matching against a fixed list is imperfect in a specific way: it finds a skill only where your document uses a word or phrase we already know. It will miss a skill described in outcomes rather than technologies, and it can suggest a skill on a phrase that meant something else. Every suggestion shows the phrase that produced it, so you can judge it. Results are presented to you for review and are not added to your profile until you accept them. You are responsible for the accuracy of what ends up on your profile, and you can edit or remove any extracted item at any time.

5.5No decisions are made about you. We do not use extracted skills to score, rank, screen, grade, or make any decision that produces legal or similarly significant effects about you. We do not use them to determine eligibility for employment, credit, housing, insurance, or anything comparable.

Extracted skills do two things: they save you typing, and, with the targets you choose during intake, they are used to suggest cohorts that might suit you. Those suggestions are recommendations you are free to ignore, and you can see the reason behind each one.

5.6We do not keep the file. Your résumé is read in memory to extract skills and is never written to our storage. There is no copy of it to delete, and nothing you need to ask us to remove. What we keep is the skills you accept onto your profile, and a record of each match: the skills it ran on, the targets you chose, the cohorts recommended, and a short reason where one was not. That record is attached to your account and is deleted with it. Privacy Policy sections 4.4 and 4.6 set this out.

5.7Your warranty. You confirm that you have the right to upload the document you provide and that it does not contain confidential information belonging to a current or former employer, client, or third party. Résumés commonly contain other people's information (referees, managers, colleagues). Please remove it before uploading.

6. Your content

6.1You own what you post. You keep all rights in the posts, profile text, images, and other material you submit ("Your Content").

6.2The licence you give us. You grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce, adapt (for formatting and display), and display Your Content, solely for the purpose of operating, securing, and improving the Service. This licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except where the content has been shared by others, or where we must retain it under section 11.4.

6.3What we won't do with it. We will not sell Your Content. We will not use Your Content to train artificial intelligence models, our own or anyone else's, and we do not permit our vendors to do so. If we ever want to change this, we will ask for your explicit, opt-in consent first.

One thing we do do, and want to be plain about: when you correct what our skill extraction read from your résumé, we keep a count of the correction with no identifier attached to it and no text from your résumé in it, and use it to improve our own list of skills, work that may in future involve an AI model suggesting changes to that list. Your content is not what would be sent, and this is not training a model on it. Privacy Policy section 4.8 sets out exactly what is stored.

6.4Your email address. We do not display your email address to other members, and we do not make it searchable. It becomes visible to another member only when you choose to give it, for example by typing it into a message, or by including it when you arrange a meeting with people you are working with. That decision is always yours and always deliberate: no feature of the Service discloses your address on your behalf. If you share it with someone, we cannot take it back for you.

6.5Responsibility. You are responsible for Your Content and for the consequences of posting it. Do not post anything you would not want a future employer, a former colleague, or a stranger to read.

7. Community rules

The Service exists to be a calmer place than the professional networks people are used to. To keep it that way, you agree not to:

  • harass, bully, threaten, stalk, or intimidate anyone;
  • post hateful content targeting people based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, disability, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, or any other protected characteristic;
  • post sexually explicit material, graphic violence, or content that promotes self-harm, disordered eating, or suicide;
  • impersonate any person or organisation, or misrepresent your professional history in a way intended to deceive;
  • post another person's private information (including a colleague's contact details or employment situation) without their permission;
  • share confidential information belonging to a current or former employer or client;
  • use the Service for recruitment spam, cold sales outreach, multi-level marketing, crypto or investment promotion, or unsolicited commercial messaging of any kind;
  • scrape, crawl, or bulk-collect member data, including for the purpose of building a candidate database or training a model;
  • upload malware, attempt to breach our security, probe our infrastructure, or interfere with other members' use of the Service;
  • circumvent rate limits, access controls, or a suspension;
  • use automated means to create accounts or post content, except through an interface we provide for that purpose.

Reporting. Every post carries a report control. Reports are reviewed by our moderation team. We may remove content, limit account features, suspend, or terminate accounts that breach these rules, with notice where practical, and without notice where the breach is serious or urgent.

Appeals. If we take action against your account you may appeal by writing to moderation@pynmo.com. We will respond within 7 to 14 days.

8. What pynmo is not

8.1Not an employer or recruiter. We are not an employment agency, recruiter, or career service. We do not vet employers, verify job postings, or guarantee that anything on the Service will lead to work.

8.2Not professional advice. Content on the Service, including posts from other members and any trivia, prompts, or encouragement shown by pynmo itself, is not legal, financial, medical, immigration, or mental-health advice. If you are struggling, please speak to a qualified professional.

8.3Not verified. We do not verify members' identities, employment history, or claimed skills unless we explicitly say otherwise. Treat information from other members with the same judgement you would anywhere else online.

9. Availability and changes to the Service

The Service is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We may add, change, suspend, or discontinue features at any time. We will give reasonable notice before removing a feature you rely on or making a change that materially disadvantages you, where we can.

10. Fees

The Service is currently free to use. If we introduce paid features we will publish the terms and pricing before they apply, and no charge will be made without your explicit agreement.

11. Suspension, termination, and deletion

11.1You may delete your account at any time from settings.

11.2On deletion, your profile ceases to be visible and is anonymised. Posts and comments you wrote remain in the community, no longer attributed to you. Delete them yourself first if you want them gone. We then delete or irreversibly anonymise your personal data on the timetable set out in the Privacy Policy.

11.3We may suspend or terminate your account if you materially breach these Terms, if required by law, or if continued provision poses a security or safety risk. Where we do so we will tell you why, unless we are legally prevented from doing so.

11.4We may retain limited data after deletion where necessary to comply with a legal obligation, resolve a dispute, or enforce these Terms.

11.5Blocked accounts. Where we have withdrawn access under 11.3, deleting the account does not lift the block, and we keep a limited record of it: the email address, the display name used at the time, the reason, and the date. Nothing else. We keep it solely to enforce the block (without it, deletion would be a way of undoing the decision), and for as long as the block stands. You may appeal to support@pynmo.com and we will reply within 7 to 14 days.

11.6Sections 6.1, 8, 12, 13, 14, and 15 survive termination.

12. Intellectual property

The pynmo name, the wordmark and logo marks, the interface, and the underlying software are ours or our licensors'. These Terms grant you a limited, revocable, non-transferable licence to use the Service for its intended purpose. Nothing here transfers ownership of our brand or software to you.

If you believe content on the Service infringes your copyright, contact legal@pynmo.com with the information required under [DMCA / applicable regime].

13. Disclaimers

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and any warranty that the Service will be uninterrupted, secure, error-free, or that automated skill extraction will be accurate or complete.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties. Where that applies to you, the exclusions above apply only to the extent permitted, and nothing in these Terms limits your non-waivable statutory or consumer rights.

14. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, neither party is liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost opportunities, or lost data.

Our total aggregate liability arising out of or relating to the Service is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim, or (b) [AMOUNT].

Nothing in these Terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.

15. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Missouri, United States, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. Disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in St. Louis County, Missouri, except where mandatory local law gives you the right to bring proceedings elsewhere.

[If arbitration or a class-action waiver is intended, it must be drafted and presented separately, with the disclosures and opt-out rights required in the relevant jurisdictions. Counsel to advise.]

16. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms. For material changes we will notify you in the Service or by email at least 30 days before they take effect, and update the "Last updated" date above. Continuing to use the Service after changes take effect means you accept them. If you don't accept, you may close your account.

17. General

  • Entire agreement. These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between us about the Service.
  • Severability. If a provision is unenforceable, the rest remains in force.
  • No waiver. If we don't enforce a right immediately, we haven't waived it.
  • Assignment. You may not assign these Terms. We may assign them to an affiliate or in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, on notice to you.
